"Lacuna." Vasha said whispering in her ear softly as she slept "Awake, the sun is rising.., come up on deck and get some fresh air." he said as Lacuna stirred in her sleep her head resting on her horse, the two creatures asleep peacefully on the hay together now the storm had, at long last, passed and the sea had once again grown calm with light winds blowing in from Hellespont to the south as they crossed the Aegean. The women had all fled to the boughs of the ship as the harsh north winds began to blow hours before and now in the still early hours of morning Vasha went down below deck, bringing with him a basket full of ripe, sweet red apples and water vessels for the refreshment of the ladies who had a long rough night and were looking quite worse for the wear, pale of skin with wide eyes.
"Where is Lucia Vega?" Lacuna asked with a yawn and a stretch a few pieces of straw stuck in her long hair as she looked around the dark space for her friend.
"She is resting with La Quint in his berth, warm and safe in his arms. All is well." Vasha smiled as he handed an apple to his dearest Lacuna; who took a bite, then she and her black war horse stood to their feet, and it warmed his heart to see Lacuna share the rest of her apple with her steed. "Come you must witness the sunrise out here upon the open sea." Vasha then escorted all the ladies back up on the salt stained decks where the goddess Dawn arose in a robe of golden splendor casting out the darkness of the long cruel night, pulling back that black curtain of shining stars for the rays of Apollo's light. The waters were like a mirror for the sun casting an endless reflection of amethyst, pinks and bright blue hues, the sun rose ever higher, far off on the eastern horizon, illuminating the many lush emerald islands which were scattered out upon the azure waters like a magnificent strand of jewels sparkling in the sun.
"May the gods be praised." Lacuna whispered as she stood gazing out at the vast expansive view the likes of which she had never seen in her life, the smell of the salt sea air felt good in her lungs and the warmth of the sun caressing her face felt like being touched by the hand of a god. With the blue sky above and the calm waters below the group sailed on as a pod of grey dolphins swam ahead of the prow of the mighty sailing vessel, a delight for the women of Themiscyra to see for the first time in their short lives and they were amazed and they marveled at the scene, the sailors explained this was an omen of good luck, a rare gift from Poseidon god of the sea. Now luck was something they all would soon need, for within hours they would be in Sparta and Lacuna and Lucia Vega grew more excited and anxious with each passing minute, for Thera had no earthly idea they were coming, they hoped and prayed she would not be angry with them, showing up unannounced. Lacuna was most concerned about how she and Lucia Vega would be received as envoys of Queen Odessa in the court of Thera and Vyakles. Here Vasha did his best to calm his beloveds fears on this matter, so he shared with her many stories about his time and friendship with Thera, and Vasha felt for certain he knew her well enough, after living with Thera on that forsaken island for so many years, that he was sure he knew the heart and mind of the Queen. He assured both Lacuna and Lucia Vega that Thera would welcome them both with open arms of friendship and love. Lacuna believed him but Lucia Vega was not quite so sure for no man can know the absolute true mind of a woman, this is how men are so easily deceived.
